SAY GOODBYE TO DRY SKIN THIS WINTER SEASON

The cold season is round the corner and this comes with another weather advisory—drying conditions ahead.

The main culprits are cold air, which holds less moisture than warm air, and low humidity. But winter and cold weather also hits harder as you get older, partly because of changes in your body over which you have little control. The result: Your skin becomes rough, flaky, and itchy and your eyes, red and irritated. It's not just a matter of comfort or appearance. Dryness can also leave you vulnerable to a host of potentially dangerous infections and injuries (such as scratched corneas) and exacerbate existing problems (like eczema and psoriasis). These simple skin care beauty tips for soothing skin, eyes, and hair can help you survive the cold weather season.

USE CREAMY CLEANSERS
Opt for mild face and body washes—the milkier looking, the better. Steer clear of harsh detergents such as triclosan and ammonium lauryl sulfate; instead, check the label for gentle surfactants like sodium laureth sulfate and cocoamidopropyl betaine.

SLATHER ON RICH MOISTURISERS
Post-shower, pat skin dry and apply an oil-based cream instead of a lighter lotion to better trap and lock moisture into skin to fight cold weather dryness. To boost absorption, warm your jar of cream in a sink of hot water while you shower.

MOISTURISE AGAIN BEFORE BED
Hydrate skin at least twice a day is always ideal—after a morning shower or bath and then right before turning in for the night. There is a slight elevation in body temperature when a person sleeps, so moisturising products seep into the skin better.

Caring for the Skin Around Your Eyes

The first sign of ageing typically starts from the skin around the eyes, with it being the thinnest with fewer oil and water glands. The delicate skin is more prone to wrinkles and fine lines as we lose skin elasticity with age. Start caring for your skin and prevent early appearance of age.

1. Moisturise the skin around your eyes with an eye cream that contains Vitamin A to reduce appearance of fine lines and smoothen the contours.

2. Gently tap a pea-sized drop of eye cream around your eyes and massage in circular motion with the tip of your ring finger that exerts the least pressure on your skin.

3. Apply eye mask that enhances hydration and serum penetration for some intensive eye rejuvenation.

4. Be gentle and avoid rubbing when removing stubborn eye makeup. Rubbing causes your skin to stretch back and forth. Go for an eye makeup remover that can effectively dissolve the makeup.

5. Avoid squinting your eyes. This strains your eyes and causes creases around them, increasing the incidence of wrinkles. Wear shades when you are out in the sun or prescription spectacles if you need one.

6. Get enough rest and have adequate sleep. With lack of sleep, essential nutrients don’t get replenished and bad blood circulation under the delicate skin causes tiredness to be visibly shown.

7. Don’t smoke. Smoking causes premature ageing and the skin around your eyes is one of the first to reflect signs of ageing.

Following these easy tips in the long run ensures losing a few years off your looks and that your habits, however small they are, ultimately determine how you look.

Say Goodbye to Blackheads

There is no single deep, dark secret for getting rid of blackheads. Stress, hormonal changes, unclean skin, cosmetics, smoking, alcohol and even caffeine are the main causes that lead to blackheads. The good news is that, unlike their more difficult cosmetic cousins the whiteheads, blackheads respond to simple treatment you can do at home. Here are some tips based on the best information for what works to treat blackheads so you can get them gone for good with simple home health care.

Epsom Salt
Another effective and natural way to treat blackheads is epsom salt.
  • Mix one teaspoon of Epsom salt and a few drops of iodine in a little hot water until the salt dissolves completely. Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature.
  • Use a cotton ball to apply to the mixture on the affected area.
  • Allow the mixture to dry and use a clean washcloth to gently wash it off.

Honey
The balancing quality present in honey is good for both oily skin and blackheads. hydrates as well as tightens the skin pores, giving you a clear complexion.
  • Apply some pure honey on your face. Leave it on for 10 minutes.
  • Rinse your face with lukewarm water.

Lemon Juice
Lemon juice, also used in acne treatment, can help remove blackheads. The nutrients and vitamins present in lemon juice are good for all skin types.
  • Make a facial scrub by mixing lemon juice with sat, yogurt and honey.
  • Gently scrub the affected area with this natural exfoliating mixture.
  • You can also mix fresh lemon juice with milk or rosewater to create a facial cleanser.
Remember to apply this treatment daily for 10 to 12 days.

Oatmeal
This combination of oatmeal and yogurt is great for keeping your skin free of blackheads.
  • Mix one teaspoon honey and the juice of four tomatoes in sufficient oatmeal to make a paste.
  • Scrub it on your skin.
  • Wash it off after 10 minutes.
  • Repeat regularly for clear skin.

You can also make a paste by mixing together 2 tablespoons of oatmeal, 3 tablespoons of plain yogurt, and a small amount of lemon juice and olive oil. Apply the paste to your entire face, leave for a few minutes and then rinse your face with water.

7 Ways to Slim Down Healthily

Going on a diet doesn’t have to be a torture. It also doesn’t mean that you have to change your living habits drastically or that you are banned from your favourite fried chicken wings and French Fries. Small changes can make a whole lot of difference. Look your best with these slimming tips.

1. Never go hungry. Reduce your intake of oily and fattening food but don’t try to get through a day with an empty stomach. You might end up eating more than you require and jeopardize your slimming plan.

2. Calculate your daily calorie intake based on your gender, age and physical activity, and plan your meals accordingly. In this way, you can pick food that will balance your cravings and slimming goals.

3. Never skip your breakfast. Have a good healthy breakfast to stay satisfied throughout the day and keep your hunger pangs away, preventing you from pigging out at the next meal.

4. Take your time to eat, take smaller bites and sip water intermittently. The slower you eat, the more time your brain has to register fullness.

5. Drink more water. It hydrates your body, reduces water retention, cleanses out toxins and takes up space in your stomach so that you eat lesser.

6. Have light snacks frequently. Prepare healthy, low-calorie snacks to satisfy occasional food cravings so that you don’t overeat at the next meal due to extreme hunger.

7. Sleep well and get enough rest. Sleep deprivation can lead to weigh gain. When you get good quality sleep, you are less susceptible to snacking out of stress and fatigue.

Follow these few simple tips and you're on your way to buying that smaller-sized jeans!
